I ask people to see therapy differently from the conservative medical model: that I am not a doctor who can bestow a cure on you in therapy sessions, but rather a person with a set of skills and experiences who will work with you to discover insights, unpack ways of thinking and refine tools to help you evolve into the person you want to be.
I am a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Member of the Australian Psychological Society, so I ensure the way I work is evidence-based - but I’m not going to treat you like a diagnosis in need of a cure. If you’re looking for a psychologist who will treat a disorder by giving you physical or mental exercises to complete, then one of the many other practices in Perth might suit you a bit better. If you’ve decided to start therapy then please do get in touch as I only have a limited number of sessions I see per week (20). I set this limit to ensure that I can be completely resourced for each person I see. Your background, personality and therapeutic aims will be different from others, and so, my approach differs with every person. This takes more time and resources than a cookie-cutter approach.
It takes genuine courage to entrust someone with your thoughts and feelings and I take that very seriously. If you have the availability and dedication, then I can offer you a regular weekly timeslot to engage in your self-development. That weekly session is then yours and no one else can book it - there’s no confusion or doubt about when your next session will be.
Most importantly, the type of depth psychology I engage in means that the therapy process shouldn’t be seen as a quick-fix: I am here to provide you with insight and tools that will take time to overcome your current ways of processing things. Sometimes those ways of thinking have been established over years, and so addressing those dysfunctional processes in a meaningful way generally takes more than a few months. Please be prepared for the time and resources that this process will require.
